Q&A ABOUT COMPULSORY INTERNSHIP
When and how long should I do compulsory internship?
The compulsory internship should last minimum 20 working days. You can begin your internship from your 3rd term onwards until your graduation.

Can I do internship more than once?
Yes, you can. If your internship exceeds 20 working days, then the exceeding days may be counted for the “Preparation for Work Life Program” conducted by Career Center of Okan University. In order to be accepted to this program, you need to get the approval of your department’s Internship Coordinator and then apply the Career Center.

I have already done an internship. Can it be counted as compulsory internship?
Yes it can, if the Internship Committee approves it. For the approval, your internship has to be accomplished after you enrolled in the department and should be proven with official documents signed by the employer.

I am a double major student. Should I do internship for both departments?
Yes. You should do internship for both departments.

I am a transfer student who came from another department of Okan University through vertical or horizontal transfer program. Can the internship that I did for my former department/school be counted as compulsory internship?
If you are vertical transfer student, you should do a new internship. If you are a horizontal transfer student, your previous internship can be counted as compulsory internship upon the approval of the department’s internship coordinator.

I have been already employed in a company/institution. Should I still do internship?
You may not.You can be exempt from internship if you can prove (with documents) that you are currently working.

Wii you tell me where I will do internship?
No. You need to seek and find the place where you will do internship with your own means. You can find here a list of national and international institutions as well as the list of a few job search sites. You can look for internship possibilities at the addresses in these lists. If you cannot find any place, Career Center may also help you.

Where can I do internship?
You can do your internship in public institutions, private sector companies and some NGOs (non-governmental organizations) which have internship programs. We, as the International Relations Department, can count your volunteer work in some academic or non-governmental organizations as part of your compulsory internship.

When can I do my internship?
You can do your internship in summer or during the term break. The time period of your internship must not coincide with the semester and summer school courses.

What is the procedure after I find the internship place?
After you are accepted to the internship in an institution, you need to collect the documents listed below:
Acceptance letter of the company/institution showing the dates and the job definition of internship (signed and sealed)

Internship Application Form filled with your info

  • 2 copies of your identity card
  • 2 copies of your student card
  • Criminal record and its copy
  • 1 photo

Once these documents are ready, you need to hand them in to the internship coordinator and get his/her approval.

What should I do if my employer wants a document from the university,?
If the company/institution that accepts your application wants a document about your compulsory internship, fill in the red places in the Acceptance Letter Example and e-mail it to the internship coordinator. You can give this document to your employer after the internship coordinator signs it.

Will Okan University pay my insurance premium during my internship?
Yes. If the institution/company wants a document about this, the internship coordinator may give an approval letter which states that your health insurance will be paid by the university.

What should I do in order to activate my insurance?
The university’s Human Resources department needs the documents listed below in order to activate your insurance:

  • Residence certificate and its copy
  • Criminal record and its copy
  • Internship Application Form
  • Acceptance letter of the company/institution showing the dates and the job definition of internship (signed and sealed)
  • 1 copy of your identity card
  • 1 copy of your student card
  • 1 photo

Which documents should I hand in to the internship coordinator in order to start my internship with insurance?
Make sure that you collect the documents listed below and bring them to the internship coordinator:

  • Residence certificate and its copy
  • Internship Application Form
  • Acceptance letter of the company/institution showing the dates and the job definition of internship (signed and sealed)
  • 1 copy of your identity card
  • 1 copy of your student card

Is there anything that I should do during the internship?
Yes. You should fill in the Internship Report day by day electronically. When you finish your internship, you should give this report to the internship coordinator within the first 15 days of the upcoming semester.

Is there anything that I should do at the end of the internship?
Yes. You should give theInternship Institution Evaluation Form to the authorized person in your internship institution. The authorized person should fill in this form and give back it to you in a sealed envelope. You should give this form to the internship coordinator within the first 15 days of the upcoming semester.
