Dear students,

The Okan Psychological Counseling and Education Center (OPDEM) provides psychological counseling and guidance to all students of Okan University. The center offers coping strategies to address emotional, mental, and behavioral challenges to improve patients' daily lives, academic pursuits, friendships, and personal relationships, thus focusing on preventive measures to address patient concerns.

Confidentiality and impartiality are core values at OPDEM. All patient information is kept private and not be disclosed without explicit consent. The center welcomes patients without discrimination based on gender, social class, religion, race, ethnic identity, language, and other factors.

Services provided by OPDEM

Individual Sessions: An expert psychologist leads each session, which extends 45-50 minutes. The expert psychologist works with the patient to assess perceived issues objectively, provide strategies for generating alternative solutions, and assist in overcoming obstacles to personal development.

Group Work: In this setting, the expert psychologist gathers patients dealing with similar difficulties, guiding them to exchange their experiences in a safe space, thus improving their ability to deal with challenges and promoting personal growth. Group meetings typically involve 5-7 participants and take place weekly for 1.5 hours for 6-8 weeks or in half-day experiential group workshops.

Seminars and Conversations: OPDEM hosts events to address patients' needs and interests while raising awareness on various topics.

Printed Materials: OPDEM offers informative resources to aid students in various subjects. Don't hesitate to contact us for our newest publication on effective time management, handling test anxiety, and improving communication skills.

OPDEM operates on weekdays from 09:00 to 16:00. Kindly download the Application Form from our website, fill it out, and send it to opdem@okan.edu.tr. That will enable us to schedule your appointment. Yes, all Okan University students can access OPDEM services at no cost.

No. Occasionally, everyone may feel stressed, anxious, unhappy, or powerless to solve problems. It's natural to seek help in such situations. Seeking help from a psychological counselor does not signify weakness or illness. On the contrary, recognizing your struggles and feeling prepared to confront them is a sign of strength.

Everyone experiences periods of low mood at times. Suppose you feel that your negative state is overwhelming your thoughts, affecting your life adversely, or creating a barrier, and you want to improve your coping abilities. In that case, you can immediately contact our center.

It is entirely up to you whether to seek assistance from OPDEM. Even if you're uncertain about applying, you can book an appointment to discuss it.

The length of your attendance at OPDEM's therapeutic sessions will depend on the nature of your concerns and your priorities. Therefore, that will be a joint decision between you and the expert psychologist. OPDEM may conclude sessions after 1-2 meetings or arrange for a longer duration, lasting 1-2 years.
