Istanbul Okan University Faculty of Law serves to train high level lawyers with its undergraduate and graduate education in the field of law. Our students, who are enrolled in a wide range of courses opened in our faculty, will graduate by obtaining all the necessary information for the legal profession. Apart from the compulsory courses related to the core areas of law that every lawyer should know, our students will also be able to choose courses to realize their personal preferences.
In our faculty, theory and practice are not alternatives to each other. In addition to the theoretical courses in which the basic concepts of law are taught, there will also be applied courses in which hypothetical legal events on important issues will be discussed and resolved. The courtroom in our faculty is effectively used for studies in this direction.
Our faculty prefers a questioning and pluralistic knowledge acquisition process that cares about student participation instead of traditional, one-way and knowledge accumulation methods. We also care that our students absorb the basic theoretical knowledge of law and gain analytical thinking / reasoning skills to solve legal problems by using these new concepts learned.
The teaching of law given in our faculty will provide a competent scientific level for practice. Thus, our graduates will gain professional qualifications in economics and administrative fields (company manager, public servant) as well as classical legal professions (judge, lawyer, notary public, academician). We can add various national and international institutions and organizations to this wide range of professions. The quota of our faculty is especially limited by considering a serious and high quality legal education.
Our students will have the opportunity to get to know business life closely during their law education. As a result of the protocols we signed with the Ministry of Justice and other institutions, the doors of courthouses, ministries, high courts, bar associations, forensic medicine institutions, chambers of commerce and arbitration centers were opened to our students. In addition, our students have the opportunity to do internships in private and public institutions in business life, especially in Okan Holding.
Being international will not be just a motto for us. It will create a content that we will focus on European law and international law. The majority of our faculty members working in our faculty have a significant international academic experience. Our students will be able to complete a part of their education abroad within the framework of the Erasmus program, or they will have the opportunity to get to know different legal systems and different cultures with the help of foreign guest lecturers in our Faculty. Within this framework, an Erasmus Agreement was signed with nineteen Law Faculties, including Universidade Nova de Lisboa from Portugal, Klaipeda Business College and International School of Law and Business from Lithuania, University of Rzeszow from Poland, University of Ljublijana from Slovenia, Sheffield Hallam University and University of Bradford from England, Universita degli studi Suor Orsola Benincasa from Italy and Universidad Rey Juan Carlos from Spain. In line with our priority agenda, we are also in talks with other universities. In this context, it should also be noted that our students will be able to study English preparatory class, if they wish, as well as optionally learn Chinese, Russian, Arabic or German languages for four years.
Our highly qualified graduates, who have successfully completed their faculty education, will make significant contributions to the solution of unique legal problems that may arise in connection with the socio-economic and cultural environment, with their scientific and methodological competencies spanning a wide area. It will be our most natural expectation that our students, who have the ability to critically reflect and analyze complex issues, will gain a permanent place in the national and international legal community with their creative and original works.
